Ranger Tranny Bound Up

-I haven't seen an electric motor in a ranger, you should make a build thread.
-It would also help to spell out the problem on this forum, a lot of people are here to help but won't bother clicking a link because they have limited time.
-At a minimum you need to say what year and type trans you have.

You need to pull the trans out, take what ever covers are on it off, and inspect the gears and bearings.

It sounds like something is sticking, and I agree it is likely something is sticking in the teeth of the gears, or a bearing is binding up.


Ron is right though, we really do need better info about what the truck has. If it's an 89 then it is all custom work and nobody here has ever seen one before. If it is a factory E-Ranger it was a fleet vehicle, one of less than 700 and nobody here has ever seen one before.

I had a f150 that locked in 4th gear. I pulled the shifter out and lined up the stuff inside so that it was a mirror image from one side to the other and top to bottom. In this particular trans, a m5od-r2, when high miles it can wear in such a way that the gear selector gets screwed up. This may be what you're experiencing. You can probably access the top of the trans without removing the trans from the motor. Make sure you are in neutral when pulling the shifter out [if possible].

Did you get yours out of 4th before resetting the shifter? If so, how?

Is it possible to reset to neutral after taking the shifter off?
