Dealer says this issue is normal. Upon initial start-up the motor revs (I assume to more quickly light-off the cat) to about 2,000-2,300 and then slowly unwinds to normal idle over a period of a couple of minutes.

I find this very bothersome and wish there was some way to stop it. Does anyone have a fix?

The truck is 6 years old and now this is a problem? Did this all of a sudden happen or from day 1?

+1

Have you just decided that you can't stand it anymore, did it just start, or did you just buy the truck.

A higher idle at start-up IS normal, especially is the engine is cold. If it just started doing this try replacing the IAC.

I'm gonna say you should be seeing 1500ish, max and dropping to 1000 or less in 15 seconds or less.

I'd drive it away, immediately after starting, go 1/4 mile or so and stop, let it idle. Idle should drop to <1000 as soon as you stop moving. Normal.

Clean you IAC first thing. Any solvent, shake it dry, be sure to brush the shaft. rinse repeat. Two 8mm bolts, reuse the gasket. Should help. If not, suspect a vacuum leak.

@press 1 for English. Thanks for your very helpful reply. :D

Bought the truck used and, yeah, it's done it since I've had it. And yeah, now, after some time it's beginning to bug the hell out of me. Might not if I used it in the city where there is a lot of white noise, but fortunately for me I live in the sticks. six miles to the paved road and an hour away from a loaf of bread. It's quiet. Very quiet (except for the Coyotes, Wolves, Elk and Sand Hill Cranes) and every time it starts it's the same thing. And just like that "ticking" noise you never notice until someone points it out and then it never goes away, this is the same.

@ Earl. I had not thought about the IAC and the dealer was no help...they all do it. Will give it a good cleaning. Perhaps that will, if not eliminating the issue, moderate it. Thanks for the suggestion.

What he said exactly.

my 03' does this too, about 2,000 rpm for about 2-5 seconds then quickly drops to about 1,200 and slowly (about 12-20 seconds) goes to a normal idle of 800-900rpm
