If I was you, I would reinforce the stock xj link arm with square tubing. Remember those pics I showed you a while ago of a 98+ ranger that used a d30 with upper and lower links? He used square tubing for the lowers and the stock uppers. I think there was a build thread on here somewhere. I can't search for it on my phone. I remember you gave me rep for it.

The pictures of that build thread are gone due to the pictures were deleted from his build thread.

One NO NO that was done on that build was his lower arms were longer then his top ones. What that does is as the suspension droops the top one swing in a smaller arc and the makes the pinion agle do some weird things, in his case it would make the pinion want to point down as the suspension droops.

True on the pinion angle. But, I was just suggesting for an example. Plus he is not wanting a lot of flex and all so if he did go that route it might be ok for him.

Well i sold the IFS stuff ro the exact money i need for the parts axle.
im arranging right now for going to get it tomorrow.

I talked a bit wiht my cousin today and seems like it could be possible to make some tube arms.
since ill have 2 axle housings, i will sell one as scrap. maybe i could get the tube for the arms with that.
they wont be adjustable, but def stronger.
whats the minimal lenght they need to be set as long arms? with the Y setup?
that would save me from using a good space under there i think

i would atleast make the upper link adjustable so you can adjust caster and pinion.

if you are confident that you can get it in ONE shot and you are gonna stay at THAT heigh then by all means do non-adjustable. XJ's were non adjustable from the factory. they attempted to "fix" there mistake on the TJ's by adding adjuster bolts to the lower link mounts

Im pretty confident ill stay at the same height.
the engine, gearing and axles are good for the tire size it has.
maybe 32" tires could be in the future, in 3 or 4 years.
but ill keep it in the same height.

So it would end up having semi long arms.
whats the shortest long arm sold out there? is there a minimal lenght i need in it so the Y link works properly?

depends on what your gonna use it for. typically the longer the better. if you need i can measure mine and let ya know. i dont forsee a real issue with it being short if its a street/gravel road truck. if your gonna wheel or drive it hard then the longer the better. if its too short and driven too hard when the suspension cycles up and down its gonna do funny things with your caster angle and make handling a fun thing.

rusty's are almost 32 or 36 inches..

here's the "plan" when i was gonna make my own for d30 sas.. then all the ttb guys talked me out of sas (and it's cheaper for me).. (now dustin and legoms are quitters)

granted these are with more resources than you have.. i'm sure you can find heims tho right?

Well actually i want a mild trail 4x4. a bit of gravel, a bit of mountain trails.
nothing too extreme.
if u could share me the measurement of your long arms and the Y links it would be great.

i wish you could get your hands on some currie johnny joints and a rebuild kit or 2. would make you making long arms easier.

i do feel that if you can get your hands on some good tubing, making your own y-link arms will save you some hassle for the swap and in the future..

you can make them the length you need them to get your angles right and they will be stronger
