Ranger Sport Honduras official build thread

hmmm. i REALLY think adjustable would be the ticket for you. let me ponder this for a bit.

i do feel that if you can get your hands on some good tubing, making your own y-link arms will save you some hassle for the swap and in the future..

you can make them the length you need them to get your angles right and they will be stronger
The idea of selling the remaining axle to buy materials for the arms isnt that bad. and i know where i could get some good strong tube for them. maybe they have heims too.

sure. im all ears for advice on this.

i'm trying to think of a way to make some adj arms also.... adj is just so much better!!!!! on so many different levels. let me think of it for a little bit...

Must be something i can build without expensive stuff or machinery. and yet be able to adjust and be strong to hold up.

yeah, almost nothing...

i bet there's something.. just need to get a few "resourceful" people thinking on it... there's gotta be something.

Parts axle is mine, took it off from the Xj a few hours ago.
so next step is puting my axle together and start thinking about the long arms.

We are thinking about 1/4" wall thick square tubing.

Should be enough to do that job. I personally would try to go for round tubing myself, less chance of something wanting to bend but I have seen them made before for a D30 SAS.

The pics escort shared with me, the guy went with square tubing.
if i cant get square, or if the round is cheapier, ill go with round.
Round looks better tho.

Clayton offroad makes the xj long arms with square tubing. I was originally gonna go with them but can't remember why I didn't.

Cool, so 1/4" thick is good enough?

Also i need some help on the measurements.
if someone could measure their long arms please. and the short arm too.
I assume i must work with a caster angle close to 0?
i need some short amr lenghts because thats what gonna determine my angle, along with the pinion angle.

I would think 1/4" would be plenty, but it might be better to hear it from somebody who's done it.

Good luck buddy, I'm still very excited about seeing this thing in action.

1/4 wall tube will be enough for you. My suggestion, set the axle under your truck where you want it, then find a spot good enough to mount the link brackets. Then measure the distance from there to axle. The upper links just need ling enough to connect to the lowers. For tons of flex the longer the arms. So with that said, you probably won't need arms as long as what I have.

Those clayton off road look really cool in square tubing. ill go that way.

Thanks for that tip.
im thinking about making the lowers around the 35" lenght.
that should be plenty flex for the stock coils.

as for caster i would try and go -5 deg or more (top of knucle leaning twords the back of the truck). The more it leans back the better it will steer at speed but the more steering effort will be at slow speeds. You are also going to have to watch the pinion angle as the caster is set. To much neg caster and the joint will bind in the yoke or you will go thru u-joints quickly (like me). i think i am around -6 degrees caster. and that is where my pinion is on the verge of being VERY unhappy. anymore and the joint starts to bing. I dont want to go much less cuz when i went from -10 degrees to the said -6 the handling at speed is noticably worse. not that is was very good before. driving down the road on big tires with tall flexy suspension I never expected to handle well.

that probably doesnt make any sense but it just what ive found out
