Ranger Sport Honduras official build thread

Why can't you use your rack and pinion steering? I've argued with myself about this and think it would work just fine.

Theres no possible way to do that.
take a good look on the older Ranger steering setup and the Solid axle setups.
ull notice that the steering is basically a bar draggin the knuckles by the pitman arm.

the rack is a centered gear that moves a piece under it from side to side.

could you not attach it like people do w/ hydro steering?? lol, LOTS of work!

Dumb people have found ways to use rack and pinion with a SAS. It's not a good idea and should not be attempted. You'd basically have to find a way to mount the rack to the axle and then figure out a way to connect your steering shaft to the rack on the axle. To me that sounds like a downright nightmare trying to figure out something safe enough to bash on and not break. RSH is on the right track using a steering gear box.

And if you haven't seen this website: http://128.83.80.200/taco/scarysteering.html RSH, check it out for ideas on how NOT to do your SAS.

thats not how you do it.. at all.. wow.

Wow, that was a technical response! I see what you're saying. I was thinking a setup without a drag link or tie rod. Just let each end of the rack come down to the knuckle like it does on your current suspension. But I guess the flaws in my idea are that the steering like would be at a pretty extreme angle, and it would have a Tom of bump steer, especially with coils/track bar since the axle moves side to side as it articulates.

Not to mention that the rack wont have enough movement to get the tirs to reach full lock when turning.

Had some work on the rollbar done. the welding is done. now i need to grind and sand that thing to get it painted. Ohh and wire the lights.

Then we added some metal stripes to the brushguard to cover the main plates.
looks tougher that way imo.

Thanks railman
The lights were the only way to disguise a bit the corners. and i wanted some aux lights, because the cab ones wont give much light to see beyond the tailgate.

Ive always liked the rubber stripe the brand brushguards have, and since i wanted that. Then i saw that the guys that make them use a thin metal stripe to cover the bare metal, so i went with something more unique lol

Im thinking about adding the small tube that goes on top.
