Hi. Im new here and am looking for some help figureing a problem with my truck. I have a 1994 ranger stx and the speedo works fine up to 45, then jumps up and down any speed after that. any ideas?

94, is it gear driven or electronic? If it's mechanical (gear driven ) take off the speedo cable at the side of the tranny, clean the area around it fairly well, take an 8mm or maybe 5/16 socket and CAREFULLY remove the small bolt holding the coupler into the trans. I say carefully because it's small and you DO NOT wanna break it. When you pull that out there will be a gear there and another youll need a light to see inside the trans. If they are both in good shape then replace the speedo drive cable. I think its the same for electronic too except its a wire and not a cable going to the speedo drive gear. If it is electronic.....well im not much good past what i told you for cluster electronics.
