So I sold my '88 'cuz it was a terrible DD. Three years of doing the 16mpg thing in town took its toll and it needed all the front suspension bushings replaced plus probably a tranny. So I started looking about 6 months ago and finally found this.

I think he hauled that Malibu home on the Tonka Truck... or maybe he bought some sort of magical extension cord car. Just kiding, that's a pretty clean looking car even if the Ranger did have to go.

I hear ya, I don't use my Rangers as daily drivers either, except for in the summer. They sleep in the garage during the winter and I get much better gas mileage with my 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5 DOHC. My wife use to get stuck a lot in the winter until we bought her an Explorer XLT 4x4. Now I don't get calls at 5am to pull her out in a snow storm.:yahoo:ZZZZZZZZZZZ

The Tonka is my kid's DD. He gets really good mileage out of it.

It does have the 3.1. What's everyone's deal with that motor? I know they have the intake gasket issue and then there is the DeathCool deal, but there are a billion of them out there running circles around our 2.9s.

i worked for pull a part if a gm car came in to be stripped you pretty much could gaurantee it was a shot out 3100 series that got it to us

I'm not too worried about it. Think about it, 99% of RBVs in the junkyard that are not wrecked or burned are there because of a bad 2.9, 4.0, or junk A4LD. I kinda figured I wouldn't get the warmest reactions on a Ford site but I'm kind of a closet Chevy guy and I like it. :thefinger:

And about the stock tires...wait till I cut the fenders and run 28" TSLs on it.

Chevy has the 3.1 and 3.8 for those cars. the 3.1 is a dog. and its rough on gas as well . I have one in the old azz oldsmobile my wife just bought and even running smoothly its a rough running motor.

If it gets you from A-B then it's a good vehicle. We can't love every car, but sometimes they earn some grudging respect if they are dependable.

My roommate bought a Malibu like that (also a 3.1) for his ex-wife (a 2003, I think). It was an ex GSA fleet car so it only had 32K miles and had maintenance records. It's black so I call it the "Men in Black" car of the "Undercover Surveillance" car since it's the most anonymous car you can imagine. But it never breaks down.

You sold the ranger in your avatar picture?

No, I still have that one and my B2. The one in my avatar is just a toy...I'd never get close to what I have into it so it's gonna stay around until it's ready for the scrapyard.

I am really curious to see what I get for fuel mileage. So far I've put about 60 miles on it and the gas gauge has hardly moved and it only has a 12 gallon tank. Guess I'll see when I fill it up next time.

Thank God!
