ranger refit/build thread

Still enough room to stash a bottle of hooch under there...........

well, looks like i may have a good deal coming up.

a few years ago a friend built an 87 bronco and had a 460 built up for it.i built the suspension for it,the engine and trans(c6) were sent out for full performance builds.

after completion, this friend never really used the bronco, and eventually sold it to another friend for a pittance.

this friend bought it mostly for the wheels, tires, and suspension, which he's putting into an f150.he has no use for the engine and trans.

i'm still waiting for him to give me all the paperwork on the motor and trans to see exactly what equipment went into them, but once i do get that i'll be putting together an offer on them.

this should save some time and money on the old ranger build:icon_thumby:

You sure seem to know all the right people

it comes to being on the island.things like this, there's a very limited number of people that have a use for it,and it's too expensive to ship things off island so the bigger market is out of reach.

of course this means you are restricted to getting the things that other's have brought over, but sometimes it works out.i'm pretty certain he put over $5k into this motor, and $3k into the trans, not to mention what i charged him for the suspension.he sold the whole truck for $3500.i'm thinking $1500 for the pair, but i still need to see what's in them.

So i take it the new power pack and trans will simply replace the current, the first 205 and everything behind, i mean in front of it, will remain the same?

No, he'll probably figure out a way to run both at once :icon_thumby:

actually,i will probably just be useing the engine...unless i decide to stay auto instead of the 5 speed.each has it's advantages,i guess the real decision will be made when i'm knee-deep in the project again.i'm mainly looking at buying the trans with the engine just to have it around-it'll be a good deal if it's got that much into it.

but yes, everything else stays the same.

so i got the info on the engine...

it's .060 overbore,fed.mog. cast pistons.

.010 under on the crank.

melling mtf-3 cam.

heads done(guides,valves,resurface)

summit pro distributer.

performer 750 carb.

balanced.

all the usual other stuff.

total bill on the engine is $3300.00

all i've got for the c6 is 'rebuilt, new torque convertor' and $850.65.

there's about 2000 miles on the whole setup, nothing hard.

i'm thinking $1200 is a fair offer.cast pistons aren't a problem with a 460,but i was hoping to see forged.the cam is kinda ho-hum,about equivelant to a ford cj cam.

this was basically a thorough, but not performance, rebuild.still better as a starting point than what i have.i like that it was balanced, although i'm not sure i trust lordco's job on that as much as the guy i used to use all the time.

i'll spend a day or two thinking about it,but i figure that's my plan.

looks to me like it's been a day or two. has the jury reached a verdict?
