Ranger rear drum to Mustang Cobra disc

This is some really good info, "Sticky" material I would say. I'm going with the GT brake set-up, don't want to buy some 17" wheels. Lots of discussion on the Mustang sites about if the larger Brembro brakes were worth it. Well they do stop about 10 ft shorter from 60 mph. That's 1/10 of a sec. They might be worth if you were really doing something like autocross but for a normal DD, sure not worth it. Thanks for posting the info, making a list and checking it twice.

If the original poster wants to put this on TRS, we will put it in the Tech Library. However, we will NOT sticky or copy any info off any other RBV site.

I guess I'm reviving an old thread, but I think more people need to be aware of this conversion/mod. I stumbled upon it the other day after googling info for ranger disc brake conversions. It seems that there is indeed a fairly cheap and easy upgrade solution out there (my apologies to AllanD if I am incorrect in this statement)

I found another link to rat_ranger12's cardomain page where he did the same thing, but it looks like he didn't cut his backing brackets, instead he installed them in front of the flange on the axle housing instead of behind it (requiring the cutting method) here's the link:

These two guys used Cobra brakes which have 12" rotors. If I can find the parts for the Base/GT models, I'm going to do this mod as I have 15" stock wheels and need to seriously overhaul my drum brakes anyway. Seems like a better use of my funds since its practically a bolt-on solution. We definitely need to get the original poster from the other site to to put this up on TRS! I'm going to message this guy ask for the favor.

I should have looked a little further back in this forum...apparently the "little brother" of Fx4wannabe01 was the guy who did the original thread.....Here's a post from TRS last year (basically the same as the fordrangerforum.com article)

I'm gonna call some junkyards this week and start assembling the parts I need.

Yep, I used brackets that did not require cutting. I got the bracket from www.northracecars.com . It is made to convert a mustang to rear disks sing ranger axles which makes it the right offset to use on a ranger.

*edit* I towed a 2500lb trailer from OKC to El Paso, about 700 miles, and it stopped not much worse than stock with my brake mods and they never faded or acted like it was too much.
