I am having a real hard problem trying to find the ideal place to mount my backup camera on my 2004 Ford Ranger...If you have one mounted give me some pics of your mounting location or ideas would be greatly appreciated..Close to the license plate would be best if possible...
Thanks,Bob :icon_confused:

There are kits that replace the blue oval on the tailgate, it sticks out a little further and the camera is in the bottom of the oval. Just saw one of those kits online yesterday but can't remember where. One problem might be that your emblem might be the smaller and over to the right one instead of the '05 on up big one in the center... Consider seeing if it will go in the handle "well" where they indented it for your hand to open the tailgate- or just below it. They don't stick out too far.

I am thinking on this also.
I am considering under the tail gate but you will see a little bumper.
License plates is ok but if you step and hit it or slip off the top of the bumper then it might damage it.

A flush mounted camera might help.

My camera has a 2 sided stick tape mount and am closely looking at mounting it looking at the bumper on the right side just below the license light or the other possibility is using the plastic plug I have in the trailer ball hole and dropping it just under the bumper from there...Drilling a hole in the center of the plug and dropping a 1/4-20 bolt down and attaching the camera to it...

Ive seen kits where the cameras are built into a license plate frame.

^A+++. We have them on three of our vehicles. They all came with brackets to mount them to the license plate frames. Easy as pie, Bro!!! I also have one that the monitor works as the rear view mirror. Really neat and simple to install. Man...the best safety feature you can add for parking lots and backing out of the garage where you know kids play.

I'll probably install the one I have already bought and try it, if it don't work out resell it back on eBay and buy the plate frame with camera...

Thanks for your input guys! :icon_thumby:

Well it has double sided tape, you could always just stick directly to your license plate lol.

Cops could frown on that..Some people drill the license frame and mount them on there...I have thought about that too...

I just made my own bracket out of plastic angle...I will make a write up with pics as I go to help fellow members...

looks like it'll work!

Let ins know how this one works out and how the picture quality is.

Thanks

There was a lot of good reviews on Amazon for the camera I bought but I doubt that there is one camera made in the USA if there is it would be cost prohibitive...I only use Motorcraft parts on my engine...I'll keep you posted on the image...Bob C.
