I am getting a 87 ranger in a few days and had a couple of questions about it.

First i want to put a loud muff. on it but nothing that going to hurt my motor any suggestions?

Second what is a good system to put in it?

How does the muffler "hurt" the engine? (BTW motors are electrically driven, engines produce their own rotational force by burning fuel) As long as your pipes are long enough and not leaking at the manifold you will be fine. Open headers/manifolds can burn an exhaust valve.

Just take the muffler off. I'm running without one, sounds ok. The 2.9 will never sound great though, doesn't really matter what you do with it. Thrush glasspack didn't sound awful either though.

By "system" are we still talking about exhaust? As far as pipe quality the best thing I've found is the dual outlet system available in the LMC catalog.

I think he wants it to sound like a muscle car and by "system" he means some subs. You should concern yourself with making sure it all runs good and fix any rust issues or anything like that before trying to "pimp it out." First vehicle and you're in highschool, right?
