I need help please I have a 1990 ford ranger and it's over heating on me It has had this problem for a while but then I bought a new radiator fan clutch thermostat and the water pump. It ran fine for months after I fixed all that. Then I replaced my heater core yesterday and drove it and it ran hot on me I have no clue why or what to do please help!

It sounds like you didn't get all the air out. You need to try burping the system.
Did you flush the system with a water hose when you replaced the water pump?
How old is your radiator? It may be clogged up. Try flushing it in both directions. Then run it to see if it works any better.

what motor? did you top off coolant when you did heater core (you could have an air bubble in cooling system or just be low on coolant). could be heads head gaskets. but we really need more info to guide you in the right direction...

Well that could be the problem right there. You're probably missing 10% of the coolant now.

Open the radiator cap, start the truck and let it get up to temp. Pour in the coolant or water until it's full.

Yes it's fairly inexpensive. Get new hose clamps too

changing t stat again wouldn't hurt being you got it hot also do glove test on cooling system to check for blown head gasket.... just for good measure

How do I do a glove test

start with engine cold then do as follows

1 radiator cap off
2 rubber surgical glove sealed over opening on radiator
3 start engine and bring to operating temp while watching for glove to dance or blowup rapidly ( if it dances or blows up rapidly head gasket is blown and or head is cracked or warped)

pull plugs and look for green tint on plug (green tint means cylinder is burning antifreeze)

looks like head needs to be done but still do glove test

basic howto to do head job (not complete instructions just a guide)

1 drain coolant and oil
2 pull intake and exhaust manifolds
3 remove and discard timing belt
4 pull head and clean block surface of any old gasket material
5 take head to get checked for cracks and flatness
6a if head is good have valves done
6b if head is repairable get it fixed and have valves done
6c if head is bad get new head
7 reinstall head using proper torque sequence and torque
8 reinstall all other parts in reverse order of removal (making sure all gasket surfaces are clean)

parts list needed for this job are as follows (everyone feel free to add parts i have forgotten this is just a basic list)

1 radiator cap (if not already replaced)
2 thermostat
3 head gasket set with head bolts (set will have all gaskets needed to do the job
4 timing belt
5 spark plugs and (wires if you need them)
6 rtv
7 oil and oil filter
8 antifreeze 2 gal full strength (will make 4 gal 50/50 and will cost less than 2 gal 50/50 also will give extra for top offs)
