If anyone is looking... I know of a Ranger GT for sale that will unfortunately end up in the scrap yard soon, according to the owner.

It is a 1988, red exterior, red interior, 2.9 V6, auto trans, 2wd. The body is in pretty good shape except for a broken grille and big dent on the driver's side front fender. Not much rust. Appeared to have all of the GT body kit pieces when I looked at it. It does not run at this time and allegedly has some electrical issue.

I am not really interested in it - condition is too good to part out, but GTs are not my thing and I definitely do not need a 2wd truck.

If anyone is super seriously interested, I would be willing to buy it and hold it until you pick it up (for a fee.) Hate to see it get crushed.

I do not have any more pictures of it, sorry.

Bump, cmon guys, save this one

Cool looking truck

wish this truck was closer to florida. my 88 is bound for Canada in the Fall, partly as a tow behind the land yacht. but it is going to cruise the Cabot Trail by itself. how much are they asking? (not that 'she who must be obey'd' would allow me to buy another one)

What is a Ranger GT? Did Ford attach those body things at the factory?

Yes... factory body kit. Kinda rare although there are at least a couple others still driving around town. I think they're horrendously ugly but to each his own.

I have not worked a deal with the owner but I'd imagine your cost would be about $500 for the truck itself plus your own expenses to get it.

I like the first gen ones better than the second ones. Done right they are neat, the body kits took a beating though, trapped stuff behind them and rotted out the body panels... all in all a lot of them didn't age well.

I wish it were cool because I'm in the market for a new Ranger project.

I'm just not feeling it. It's almost a contemporary of the Syclone, but no meats.

It WOULD have been cool if it came with a factory V8, turbo 4 cylinder, even a 4.0... anything besides a 2.9. The long box doesn't really do it for me either.

What's more is this one has an automatic - I've seen a few GTs but all were 5 speeds.

Back in 88 a 2.9/5sp (espicially with the 4.10 rear i believe those came with) would of hung pretty damn well with wannabe "sports" cars of the day. Not to mention what it would of done to its biggest competiton...a 2.8 S10

GT Ranger (actually any of those early STXs)

5 speed = 3.73 gears
auto = 4.10 gears

that truck really should be saved though.. If you have the room throw him a $300-$400 offer at it. You can't lose. I paid wayy more for mine (same truck '88 GT long bed auto but blue) not running and I still feel I got a good deal on it.

I don't have room for it, I already have 7 trucks at my house and another two at my buddy's place. I'm at the point where it's difficult to get my trailer in and out and I don't want to park on the grass. I don't think there's any money to be made flipping it - needs a ton of work and expensive stuff like tires, I'd be lucky to break even... for my purposes it's a parts truck, and not even a good one since it's 2wd, red, long box, auto, 2.9. Nothing good. If it does indeed have a 4.10 rear axle, that's tempting, but it's a 7.5, and I can pick up an Explorer 8.8 with 4.10's for $150 any day of the week.

It's a sad situation. Someone just needs to want it real bad and come get it.
