I have the opportunity to pick up a sport trac for really cheap...but it needs a motor. Will any of the SOHC 4.0 L motors swap in from other tracs, rangers, or explorers? Or, do I have to have one specifically from the sport trac. I know the motors are the same, but I need to know if they will swap.

They're all the same base engine. Early SOHC's had a crappy intake design...you can tell because it has a long engine cover instead of a short engine cover. I'd look for a 04+ engine from a Ranger, and use the Sport Trac wiring harness. I swapped my stock 01 engine for a 06 engine a few months back and some pigtails changed and some sensors...but I mated the 06 harness to my 01 harness so it's all good. The later year, lower mileage engine the better because of those 97-02ish timing chain issues.

check out www.car-part.com. It's where I found my 1,000 mile 06 engine for just over a grand.

don't hesitate to ask more questions...I learned alot from my swappage. haha. I got access to all the diagrams you'd need too.
