Ranger eating lgnition Control Modules

After 15k miles my ranger is on its 3rd ignition control module (2.8 engine). The plan is to duraspark the engine, but I wont be able to do the swap for a few months. In the meantime, I'd like to stop burning through ICMs.

Any ideas?

Heat is the usual killer for TFI modules.
Or could be an intermittent short in the wiring.
