hey guys ,just wanted to tell my personal experiance with ranger clutch
issues
i have an 03 ranger edge 3.0 v6
i recently had to replace my clutch mast. cyl. i found that this is actually pretty simple[of course i had help from this forum] well after replacing and bleeding everhyhing was fine for a week UNTIL my damranger decided to act up.low and behold my slave cyl went capoop!!!!!just my luck.
heres some things i found and hopefully it will help others
if you are only swapping slave cyl you should NOT need alingment tool [although only $3.00]as the clutch should not need to be reset [unless you
change clutch] it can be a little tricky getting trans back inas the input shaft
spins and makes it difficult to get splines linded up[ i got mine nosed in and pulled trans to block with the bellhousing bolts, criss crossing of course]
next prob i had was clutch interlock switch [located on mast cyl pushrod little black box with wire plug MINE HAS 7 WIRES] truck wouldnt start . now rumor has it this can be bypassed ,so try as might i could not get anything
so now im pretty pissed truckwould bump start only after 2 days of messing with switchn i gave up so i bypassed it all together and installed a push button start[ wire from batt. to inside cab to push toggle then to starter solenoid] you still need key and truck Will start in gear BE CAREFUL AND PAY ATTENTION WHEN STARTING .
AS FAR AS BLEEDING GOES THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME
i did NOT bench bleed . loosen bleeder valve attach hose as described in other threads , keep resavoir full and let it gravity bleed ,tighten bleed valve and remove master cyl and turn upside down you should be able to push rod 1/4 way in or so ,lossen bleed valve again and again keep resavoir full, let it grav bleed 1-2 resavoirs worth of fluid tighten valve and reinstall mas cyl ,with an assistant working cluth pedal bleed the same as brakes [ pump 5-6 time s and release air do this 3-4 times [KEEP RES FULL]and walah its bled
honestly it took me a while to swap slave its alot of work and the Ford guys suck for putting it there all in all it took me all day and lots of blood and maybe a tear or two lol but its done and working great [so far]
hope this info helps others:icon_cheers:

Don't know about the newer rangers but on my 94 I read an article that stated the auto and the manual transmissions had the same wiring harness. The only difference was that the manual utilized a manual start switch that required the clutch to be pushed in. The auto version had the plug for the manual start switch jumpered out by the use of a block that plugged directly into the plug. Found one at the local pull-n-pay, plugged it in, and no more switch to deal with. Have been using it for a number of years with no problems.....

How did you turn the master cylinder upside down while it was still in the truck?
