I have been doing some looking at Transplanting a 89 Ranger regular cab on a Bronco 2 frame and making a super short box to add to my Ford Fleet.
I have 3 Bronco 2's for donor parts. Only have 1 Ranger.
A couple questions have come up in the shop... Will a front clip from a 88 Bronco 2 fit on a 89 cab?
Where to cut the box to make the short short box?
Also is the 2.8 and 2.9 engine the same block and bolt pattern??
Anybody got ideas... Thank You...

you might be better off doing what a guy on here did his screen name is rico i believe, but he chopped the back of his bronco 2 off for a chop top then sealed the cab and turned it into a shortbox ranger with the back windo being the back one off the b2 so it opens up

No idea if the front clip will bolt up between the two generations; but I really doubt the body lines will match.

As to where to cut the bed; I think you will have to place the wheel wells as needed, then cut both the front and the rear of the bed. I would measure about 93 times and then cut very carefully.

Sounds like a neat project when finished.

Body lines will match up just got to change the core support with the bronco ii core support ...hood...fenders...

For the bed go ahead Look at mavericks b2/ranger build he was going to make one but tossed the idea...

As for the 2.8 and 2.9 bolt pattern do you mean were the tranny mounts ??? And as for rico's that man can to do a great job i am in the process of doing the same thing but i dont think i want to finish it lol...

Thanks for the help guys.
Broncoiister I want to take a good 5 speed from a B2 that has a 2.8 and put it behind a 2.9. If it wont bolt up will look for another 5 speed. Thank you again

Cornhusker in the future do this first http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/search.php if you don't find your answer then ask away.

The question you asked about the transmissions is every where here. You just need to search. This site is one of thge easiest to navigate. I will tell you though that the 2.8, 2.9 and 4.0 same the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

I always liked this extended cab example, Aaron Dionne's 1988 Ranger. If he can do that I have no doubt that you can do a regular cab and make look good.

1986broncoiister, thanks for posting that link. I never knew that the BII flares were wider. I'm putting a 98 Explorer axle in my 88 street Ranger and if it ends up being to wide for my liking I might just have to borrow that idea.
