I am looking at purchasing a 1993 Ford Ranger, and am wondering if their are any major problems with this year or model to look out for.

Also, what are some good things to look for in these vehicles when buying a used one (and probably a very used one - since its cheap)?

Thanks
Sach

What are you looking to use it for? Daily driver? Or something more :)

i havent really had any major problems with my 93. its been very well taken care of though.

are you looking for a 4x4 or 2wd, standard or auto. i have a 94 4x4 w/ a 4" lift frt and 2" blocks rr w/ over 206,000 miles on it. it has a 4.0 5 spd manual everything that i bought for $400.00 18 months ago and i take it everywhere. which ever way you go, i don't think you can go wrong. any more questions, let us know.

The 3.0 is lacking in power, but will last a long time. Automatic transmissions like to fail on the rangers. I haven't had an issue with mine, but others had. If the tranny fluid smells old or burnt i would be cautious

If your going really old the 2.9 is a good all around engine. Got more torque then the 3.0 and gets better mileage then the 4.0. Get a good one and there indestructiable.

later,
Dustin
