Ranger body and engine combination

Did Ford ever make a 1989-1992 Ranger with the combination of a regular cab and short bed with the 2.9L motor in it? All I ever see in this size of truck is the 2.3L four cylinder. I would like to find the 2.9L combination because I want to take it out and replace it with a 4.0L and have a quick sporty little truck.

If you're looking for that body style, why not just find one with a 4.0 already in it? Then you don't have to do anything.

Almost every 4.0 truck I've ever seen has been a regular cab short bed. Maybe it's just a matter of where you're looking? South-central Kentucky is full of 'em.

I'm not sure if that's sarcastic or not, but I wish you luck. Specific option sets can be pretty rare in some areas.
