I have a ranger i been picking apart to fix up my other rangers, i was thinking of making a trailer out of the frame and bed.
I would have to fix some of the rust, but it should be good enough for a trailer
I have seen it done does anyone know what is involved and how do you go about re-title as a trailer?

Most, if not all areas allow you to register it as a U-Built trailer and it would be rated for no more than 3500 lbs.

I figure it would be pretty easy.
Just find someone with a welder, do some cutting, weld on a tongue and some basic wiring.
For a basic almost free trailer, 3500lbs would not to bad.

Even though truck is beyond being a fixer, i still feel bad for scraping out a 1 gen ranger. if it can live on as neat trailer, i think i could live with myself.

check with disciplerocks, he made one a few months back, turned out real nice

I have seen a bunch of pickup beds turned into trailers. Toyota and Ranger and F-150's. They are all licensed as well. They really look great. I don't need that big of a trailer so I run a small military style trailer once in a while when I need it on Camping trips or to get extra mulch or stone and rock.

the one thng that is important, even if not specifically required by local law or regulation,
is to make sure you have working brakes.

Plan A on this is to use a surge brake trailer coupler and use it to
activate the hydraulic brakes.

Plan B is to remove the Ranger axle entirely and install a purpose
made trailer axle with electric brakes.

I've developed a preference for electric trailer brakes as they are easily adjusted from the drivers seat for different loads and situations.

BTW, if you decide to use the Ranger axle one thing you must do is to disassemble the
axle, remove the ring gear from the diff carrier (And RABS tone ring if so equipped) and reassemble it.

But I'd REALLY recommend using a 3500# trailer axle

It's really easy and straight forward.
I'd post some pics by work won't let me get to them. There is a bunch in my photobucket, and on my cardomain page;

I love how yours turned out.
When I get around to paint the truck, i am going to practice on the trailer bed

I would love to have your fender flares, window vents and hood deflector.
i been trying to keep my eye for them. no seems to make gen 1 stuff anymore.

Thanks for the info, I'll am stick with the ranger axle till i get the funds for trailer axle.
From my experience no mater how small the load trailer brakes can keep you out of trouble.

I have a E250 for work and pulled a B2 with it and wished it had brakes

So, Ron.

How's the trailer? Hopefully you've been too busy hauling stuff.
