Random Thought - Do Gen 1 tailgates work on a Gen 2 box ?

Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been brought up before and I have tried Googling it for a good half hour and cannot seem to find a solid answer - will a tailgate from a Gen 1 Ranger drop-in and work on a Gen 2 box ?

83-88 tailgates fit a 89-92 box fine.

Confirmed, I have seen it in the junkyard a lot, farmers grab whatever works to keep their truck working.

might even fit a 93-2011... won't line up bodyline wise, but may physically operate/ latch and close...

go to a junkyard and see if you can find one and take it to a gen 3 or later and see if it works. I know the interior of the bed did not change from 83-2008, and then it only changed to add 2 more mounting holes.

1st/2nd gen tailgates will fit a 93 and newer but the latches are different.

Hey fellas thank you very much for the positive info ! I found a great shape FORD script tailgate on a truck at the scrapyard so now I know it'll fit my '91 I'm going to get it this weekend
