:icon_confused: ive done alot to my truck over the years and at this point every sensor on it is brand new but it still randomly gives me idle issues and if i jump on it it baffles an stumbles for a lil then opens back up an runs fine!!! very confused an cant find good answers any help would b great

I have this same issue. Members here told me to clean the throttle body with carb cleaner. I did this and no change. You can try that if you haven't already but it didnt help me any.

Have you checked the EGR valve? Easiest way is to disconnect the vacuum line plug it and if it runs and drives fine afterwards its the EGR valve. Just found this fix on another thread here and thought I'd mention it.

Idle air control replaced? My ex was running idling terribly and would occasionally die when I let off the throttle, replaced that and its all good now.

Where is the egr valve located on 2.9?

I had the same problem, relaced the fuel filter and the idle smoothed out.

I read somewhere that 88 and older do no have egr valves. Anyone know if this is true?

check your injectors
look for vacuum leaks

88s do not have EGR valves.Check for vacuum leaks and spray carb cleaner around base of the three intake pilars to see if your idle increases due to leaking gaskets

False, I have an 84 B2, 2.8L and it has an EGR valve that I recently disconnected which fixed my idle problem. Just need a good tuneup now and a little carburetor tweaking to get it adjusted right.

Not exactly sure on the 2.9L as my manual is worthless when it comes to component locations, Haynes manuals are overpriced for no more help than they are on most issues. But a Google Search turned up this location, looks pretty strange to be a typical EGR valve though.

From my understanding that is not a EGR vavle that is the IAC module.

Who knows, I can't find anything else, may or may not have one, the Haynes manual says there's one but doesn't say or show where.

Here's what Autozone says for the location: Under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted on passenger side top of engine no picture though, sounds to me like the picture I listed above is the correct location for the EGR valve, but like I said sounds like the manuals don't know either.

There EGR valve would be where i circled it in red
