I have a 94 Ranger and have noticed the steering rag joint is getting in rough shape and cracking up..woundering if there is a way to upgrade to a U joint setup without too much work
Dont know about yours but mine is rivited in. not a simple unbolt and replace deal. Add that to the fact that I can't seem to seperate the column shaft from the rag yoke to remove the pieces to drill em out either.
One of the genI Explorers I stripped had a U-joint instead of the rag joint. I think it was the 91. That steering shaft is now on my 94 Explorer. If you can find one its should fit your Ranger without any modifying.
It would keep a lot of vibration out of the steering wheel if you put a new rag joint in....u-joints do the job, but the steering wheel lets you feel every crack in the highway...I removed my steering shaft---drilled out the rag=joint rivets...put a new rag in---bolted it in place with grade 8 bolts & lock nuts.
