Been working on a SAS on an 88 Ranger recently. Fullwidth axles. d44/9". I've run into an issue with the radius arm brackets.

I've figured up where to mount my brackets to the frame, but the frame of the Ranger is too narrow, it seems, to run the brackets bolted straight to the frame. I really don't want to extend the radius arms. Kinda need what "toy" money I have for other parts of the project, at this time. Any suggested on how to safely get the radius arm brackets to a better width? I've seen a lot of people spacing out coil buckets, so I don't really think this would be any different. How are you guys doing that? Just getting some 1 1/2" thick metal and drilling holes all the way through, and bolting it? Or are you using square tubing for spacers?

Thanks in advance! :headbang:

And another pic, because I know everyone likes pics!

how far off are they? Only 1.5" on each side? if so.. just pull them in.

Nah. They're off like 4" on each side. I can't pull 'em in that far. I did it with a ratchet strap, and it was still a royal pain in the ass. And once I got them in place, the bushings were about maxed out, and it was twisting the frame a little.

i wouldnt extend them off the frame that far. you need to extend them.

.................

I just finished my SAS on my 92 Ranger, I used FW axles but I used aftermarket mounts for the 78-79 trucks its a drop down with. There drop down brackets.....L.i had no problem with them I pulled them together an they seem fine an it Flex's like Crazy!!!! :icon_thumby:

Got any pics of which brackets you used, and how they're mounted?

Well, I ended up just squeezing the radius arms in as far as I could and put them in at the stock location. I'm gonna leave a ratchet strap on them so they aren't puttin' any outward pressure on the frame until I can get a crossmember built to tie them together. Truck sits a little higher than I wanted, and expected, but oh well.
