The other half traded her Expy in a few months ago on an 04 Silverado 2500HD Ext Cab, Long Bed, 4x4 with factory 2" lift. (Before you ask it tows the horse trailer).
Anyway, with the cold weather after intial start up the radio stops; goes out completely, dark face. After you've driven for a while, warmed everything up and then shut it off and retart it works fine. I'm assuming it's a relay of some type but since I don't have a Haynes/Chiltons for it yet I could use some help. This definitely ISN'T a Blue Oval, I discovered that when I installed the electric brake box!

did you purchase it privately or from a dealership?

I know some dealerships have a 3month warranty wouldnt hurt to look into it,

I used to work at a GM Dealer, and have never seen one act like that tho, so im not much help

She bought it at a used car lot; no warranty. As it was I had to go back and argue with them for a spare tire and tools. It also suffered from GM speedometeritis but I had a friend that is a service writer that got it warrantied. He's asked his techs on the radio problem but so far no luck. Guess I'm going to break out the meter and start shooting wires and signals.

I know there was a couple radio's ive replaced in trucks that died, ended up just getting them from a wrecker, out here in canada Mass electronics are the one that did GM radio repairs, im not sure if they also handle state side repairs,

Hm. I hope everything gets worked out, but my family and I, have always had issues with GM stock radios, Delco? It may just be a thing with them.

I forgot to include this is now an aftermarket radio but I've swapped old factory unit back in and it exhibits the same symptoms: Works fine in "ACC" but once the truck starts the radio goes dead. I'm leaning toward RAP but not knowing GM that well I'm not sure what else should be on that circuit or where the RAP relay is located.

UPDATE! She had a new battery put in the other day and the problem magically went away. Only thing I can think of is a poor ground that was "improved" with the battery swap. When I was in electronics in the AF we used to say certain things worked on FM (F****ing Magic). Guess this is one of them.

sounds more like it was a bad connection on the constant power line, if it worked fine in acc. and not when it should be constant, that woud make sense, when the new battery was put in the wire was probably just connected better
