got a question for someone out there, now the library says a 4.0 liter radiator will work for the v8 swap, i was wondering if the 2.9 radiator will work as well.

The 2.9 rad is only a single core. you will want the 4.0 dual core for enough cooling in a 5.0 swap.:headbang:

ok thanks got to find one of those now

They are most often found in automatic Explorers. Depending on how your engine is set up 1st generation Explorer radiators drop in to first and second generation trucks.

yea i looked at them online and from the advanced auto zone website and the autozone website they said that the best one you can get only has 2 cores for the 4.0. and the 2.9 said it was a 1 core, now just out of curiosity i looked up a f-150 and for the 5.0 with a manual tranny its only a one core radiator.but its 10 inches taller would that make that much that much of a difference, cause if the radiator out of a full size with a 1 core why not a 2.9 one with a 1 core

A fullsize has a lot more available space for said larger radiator. You could do it in a Ranger but you would have to hack most of your core support away.

You can either go bigger like a fullsize, or go 2 row like an Explorer.

thanks for the insight going to go to junkyard and snag one up, would buy brand new but moneys kinda tight, but for the most part get a 1 generation explorer radiator that has got a 4.0 and auto tranny and that should keep the 5.0 cool

Ranger 4x4 with 4.0 a/c also had the two core. Mine is out of a 94 4x4 auto.
