Radiator Shroud?

I bought a new 2 row core radiator for my Ranger (4.0, 5 speed, with A/C). The radiator is for an auto tranny. Will the stock (manual tranny) fan shroud be OK or do I need to get one for an auto tranny type, since the two row core is 'thicker' than the stock radiator?

Rather than cutting on the good OE shroud, I picked up a used one for an Explorer with auto tranny. The radiator is for a '94 4.0 Ranger OR Explorer auto tranny, so the shroud should be right.

Everything fit fine but the shroud sticks out past the right (passenger side) radiator tank, about 1". Doesn't sound like much but now a decent amount of air can get sucked in there and is bypassing the radiator and condenser. Is there some sort of piece of foam or other thing that's supposed to block off that space?

Also.. I replaced the fan clutch with an aftermarket part. The new one came with a spacer that moves the fan blade closer to the engine. I didn't install the spacer. The original setup had the fan blades (when looking from the side) sticking out about 1/2 way from the shroud. The new setup has all most all of the blade 'inside' the shroud. Is that a problem? Maybe someone with a '94-ish Ranger with an auto tranny and A/C can take a look at their rig and let me know?

Does fan need spaced back towards engine?

Is the bottom part of the shroud in the clips?

Yes, the shroud's in the clips. Also, the fan is centered in the shroud so it all seems to be aligned perfectly. The left (driver's side) of the shroud butts up even with where the core meets the tank, so everything appears normal execpt that gap at the right side. :dunno:

That's normal for it to stick out like that. I did a 2 row radiator in my 94 3.0 along time ago and I went to the junkyard and got a shroud from a explorer that had a 2 row in it and it also had the gap. When I put it in I have the gap on the passenger side, all the 4.0's in the junkyard had the same thing. I looked at each one to make sure.

That's odd but if that's 'normal', I feel I'm OK. I cleaned the junk out of the condenser and straightened a few fins, flushed the cooling system and pretty much replaced everything except the overflow tank and heater core. She's running normal temp and not getting hot like it was doing a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the responses. Should be good for another couple hundred thousand miles, I hope...
