Hey guys, Happy new years!!!!!
I was just looking at the fan blade on my 93' 4.0, and I was noticing (not that I haven't noticed it before) that the blades are broken (not completely) but there are substantiation cracks in between every blade. Some aren't huge, but some are pretty decent, and they've been there a while, like over 5 years.
The question I am building up to is, would something like JB weld be alright to fill the cracks, or would that be adding to the problem? The last thing I want is to put a bunch of junk on that's just going to make the fan be off balance, and explode into a bunch of shrapnel into the radiator/hoses/etc. Obviously replacement is the solution, but since I can't afford it currently, so what would be the best solution?
Many thanks my brothers.

Don't do anything, you could make matters worse. If it's been like that for a few years it will probably last a little longer, but I wouldn't count on it.

Contact some local salvage yards if you can't afford a new one. You're talking about something spinning at a high RPM with a defect(s). If one blade let's go? It can destroy your waterpump, and do a lot of damage depending on where it flies.

What ever a used or new fan costs is chump change compared to what may happen if a blade comes off.It was worse when the blades were steel. Don't rev the engine until you fix this!

They last a LONG time with all those hairline cracks.
I wouldn't set my hair on fire looking for one.

Just keep an eye on it and replace it when you get the $.

I wouldn't bet money on it. When I picked up our BII the plastic had split 1/8"+ at each section between the fan blades. If nothing else? Put it on your to-do list at the top.

JB Weld is great stuff...but I know from experience that it won't hold onto anything plastic/nylon that flexes a lot like fan blades....I nearly ruined my $300 radiator from letting the bad fan blades go too long....

brand shiny new ones are 26 bucks.
