anyone know much about this? theres a kit to "retrofit" an old r12 AC system to the newer r134a type coolant, do these work well? it seems pretty easy to use. my smart self had refilled an empty r12 system with 134a and blew out all the o rings and gaskets and everything so I'm looking at getting the AC working with the NC summer on the way

Yes, these kits work pretty good. Make sure you first install the included oil before any freon as this is needed to properly switch the system over. The system should be vacuumed out before you install freon to remove all atmospheric air which contains contaminates and humidity, which will damage parts. Make sure you use the appropriate gauge when charging and take care not to overcharge as this will cause the system to ventilate excess pressure (IE lose freon)....
