No more dishwashing at Sonny's for me!

I started delivering Pizza the other night, On a slow night and I got stiffed out of a tip I still made $10 an Hr. even after paying for gas. I cant wait to go in tommarow night when its gonna be busy.

Good luck on the change; hope that it stays "for the better". I'm in the process of changing jobs myself; it's not easy sometimes.

ive changed jobs 5 times in the last 6 months, i hope im done with that for awhile.

hey,it will be ok.i felt the same way after 13 yrs at last job.looking back, life has been so much more rewarding and challenging.you'll be just fine.

I'm beginnng to wonder what's in store for me at work as well. I posted for an internal Maint position, but they haven't gotten back to me.

I made the mistake of calling in some broken equipement the other night (we clean floors and when everything is broken, that's a problem) and they are trying to determine if it would be cheaper to replace the equipemnt rather than fix it, or if it would just be cheaper to outsource us.

NOT a good time to find a job in this country.

You were nice enough to give them a two weeks notice?:dunno:

the last job i left i wasnt about to give any notice, if you give notice you are automatically terminated. i couldnt go 2 wks or more without pay. sometimes you have to do whats best for YOU. even if it isnt whats "right". expecially if youve got a family to support...

That depends on how much of a difference you make at your job. The two week notice is to give your employer enough time to find somebody else to replace you. So when you leave everything does not go to hell. Differs from job to job I guess. Not sure dishwasher falls into the category. Not insulting dishwashers by no mean.

:haha: i have ben a dishwasher for almost two years:icon_twisted: ...hoping to move up in the world as a mechanic but it works for now... plus i get to eat free:headbang:

Thanks, man. We're the same age, I think, so I'm sure that you can relate to what's it like making a change like this. Actually I'm pretty buzzed about it, and the new job will be MUCH better for me after I get settled in awhile. I do appreciate your support!

Place I worked at for 32 years shut the doors on us in October. I haven't worked since. Don't wanna. Many Corporations use the argument "employment at will". That means they can fire you on the spot, or you can quit in like manner. I'd say the 2 week notice would carry as much value as the way the company treated me.

I just transferred to another hospital owned by the same organization, and so far I'm much happier.

Funny thing is, I USED to deliver pie. Of course, gas was about $1.40/gallon then (10 years ago). Here's a board for drivers if you need to vent about delivery or whatever: http://www.tipthepizzaguy.com.
Oh yeah, and if any of you other guys don't tip delivery drivers (not to mention wait staff and other tipped service providers), then SHAME ON YOU! If you can't "afford" the tip, you shouldn't be ordering pizza! :flipoff:

Delivering pizza is the only job I've ever had that I thought that I could go back to if I had/wanted to. You can have some good times, but other times there'll be steam shooting out of your ears!

I was gonna but I wanted to make sure I liked the pizza job first so Ive called Out sick from Sonnys the last few days to try out the pizza job. I ened up getting schedualed all weekend at Sonnys and My new boss wanted me to work the same days so I just told sonnys what was up and they where cool with it.

as a former delivery guy myself, I always tip 20% for fast and curtious delivery. however if the person that comes to my door is rude or rediculously (sp) late, they can be happy if I give up a dollar. unless ubviously it snow like a mofo out there.

and to the O.P. just a little trick I learned and will share with ya, besides being polite to the customers, ALWAYS I repeat ALWAYS be nice to their kids! and maybe even keep a couple of dog biscuits in your pocket, if the dog comes to the door ask the customer if you can give the dog a biscuit. believe it or not 99% of the time the customer will say yes and give ya a little extra!!

back when I was delivering full time I could clear 15-20 bucks a hour just from those two things!! have fun and be safe.
