On the 4.0 OHV, which way does the thermostat go in? Is the side with the spring supposed to face toward the front or the rear of the truck? My thermostat fell out as soon as I removed the housing and I didn't have time to see which way it was.

I happen to have one sitting here (cleaning and organizing parts) for a 5.0. It does not indicate which direction except on the box, spring towards the engine as said.

Thanks that's what I thought. I installed it but didm't test it yet. I gotta wait for my new rad hoses to come in tomorrow and hook those up.

Cheaper to print it on the box instead of stamping in the metal.

Most (not all) I've seen have an arrow on the spring cage with the word "flow" or radiator" on it (sometimes just an arrow). The last one (motorcraft) I put in I didn't pay any attention to it.

yup, what was said above. also make sure that the jiggle valve is in the 12 oclock position so it fits into the notch in the intake manifold.
