quick answer? truck tool box on craigslist

I had a Delta box that I found I had to pull both handles and try to bang on it to open it. After carefully examining both latches I discovered that there was a rod connecting both latches and it was missing a set screw for the one side. A new set screw from the hardware store and an adjustment to the latch on one side and it worked like new.

that's not my model, if the picture on the lowe's website is with the correct model number.

mine does not slant like that, it's a wider top, and then just a 90 degree angle to a narrower width but deeper height box.

why is it such a good deal? you can buy the box new for under $250 so i wouldnt expect to see a used box for much over a 100

and the kobalt boxes arent that great...pretty thin materials

i agree with slo here, plus, i've sold a good bit of stuff of CL and if you try to get your money back on something, usually people arent gonna be interested....you gotta go cheap if you really want to get rid of it

well at least locally here, i've never seen one under $200. but i'll be lenient and say $150.

you have to understand that i'm a high school student, and i only work about 10-15 hours a week. $100 is sorta a lot to me.

That sounds like here too, everyone thinks there crap is gold, and hey I work full time, and spend about $50 a week on gas, and $100 is still a lot of money to me too.

yeah, and i've got priorities other than my truck (:icon_surprised: "did he really say that??????)

yeah i did. sorry i can't afford going to the junk yard every weekend getting new parts and buying all these tools and welding this and fabricating that and soldering a doohickie. i'm just here to have a good time, and spend a little money on my truck when I get the chance to spend it on something practical. sure i'd love to be able to just buy EVERY thing brand new out of LMC truck or w/e, down to ever last bolt and spark plug wire, but it's out of the question for me. i don't have 10 grand to drop.

100 bucks would be alot for me for a box seeing as i have never paid for one ever. when my dad gave me my first f 150 it had one on it and the weathergaurd i have no i got for free....with a key. If you ever had the opportunity i would get weathergaurd it is quality with heavier material but you'll probably pay more but i'd say its worth it to get one used.....

my grandpa sold me the truck (overpriced is the more accurate term:annoyed:) and it had a topper and i sold the topper for 100 i believe on craigslist, so i guess in a round about way i sort of got the box for free.

Between me and my dad we have 5 weatherguard boxes on trucks and two new ones in the garage... The two in the garage and one of the ones on the trucks are replacements from Weatherguard.... the doors on two boxes had to be replaced because they corroded to junk inside a year (and trust me, they were not beat on) and three other boxes had corrosion problems in short order. I've never seen a "cheap" box corrode out like that yet. So I'm not sold on their "quality" at all.

Finally got a chance to check out my truck tool box. Upon inspection, only the left handle SHOULD have to be pulled to open up the lid, it is the one with the lock on it. And the rod connects to both sides, and on the left side the rod goes through a bracket that has a screw without a head pushing on the rod to keep it stable i assume.

the right side is missing that "screw".. where can i get this? or something that will work in it's place?

sounds like a set screw is missing, just like LBF said about his tool box.just run to the hardware store and pick one up. maybe take the set screw out of the other side so you know what size it needs to be. anybody working at the store should be able to get you what you need for cheap, less than a buck
