quick advice needed for used HU

i wouldnt pay over 100 bucks for it. its a good radio though...ive installed quite a few of them at work and havent had any real problems with them. and yes, its similar to the 9886 just without the biolight display.

or you can pick up a new one for about 100-120 bucks. a lot of new radios have usb inputs on the front or back thatll charge the newer ipods. (the alpine cable on that radio will only charge the older ipods, just not the newer ones).

I have an ipod classic, it's an 80g... will it charge?

would it really be worth it to spend maybe 50 bucks more and get a brand new one?

the cheapest i found online was 155 for a brand new one, but it's the upgraded version
that one is the CDA-105

i believe on the classics they have the newer set up that apple came up with. they used to be 12v charging but now theyre 5v. check to see if its a 5v usb charge...if it is then it wont work with the 12v charge coming from the alpine.

the 105 is almost the same except it has a larger display and a usb attachment on the back for your ipod cable.

if youre set on alpine then this is a good deal. but if youre open to other brands then you can pick up a jvc or something for much cheaper.

i want a more reliable, higher quality headunit than jvc, i don't mind spending around $150

i definitely want ipod charging, not sure if i prefer front or back usb
i want a detachable face
what i liked the most about the 105 is the immense amount of options it has for like the HPF and LPF and all sorts of combinations with the dedicated, controllable sub output, it seems like it would fit exactly what i need.

so then whats wrong with the kenwood i linked in your other thread?

I have the Pioneer deh p4000ub. It is very nice and can be had for around 120 i think now. It has rear USB but comes with a cable that i ran to my glove box for my ipod. Also has front Aux input. It charges my Ipod Touch.

this would be cheaper than both of them, not saying what you told me earlier are bad, just happened to come across this while browsing craigslist and thought it was worth inquiring about.

this is what is selling me on the headunit;
Bass Engine: Bass Engine functions provide control over your system, so you can tailor the sound to your personal tastes. Bass Engine includes the following functions:

* Bass Control:
o Bass Center Frequency: 60Hz, 80Hz (default), 100Hz, or 200Hz
o Bass Band Width (Q): Q1 (narrow), Q2, Q3, or Q4 (wide)
o Bass Level: -7 to +7 (-14dB to +14dB in 2dB steps)
* Treble Control:
o Treble Center Frequency: 10kHz (default), 12.5kHz, 15kHz, or 17.5kHz
o Treble Level: -7 to +7 (-14dB to +14dB in 2dB steps)
* High Pass Filter (HPF): speaker level and preamp outputs (other than the subwoofer output) have a selectable crossover (HPF); off (default), 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz
* Loudness: on/off
* Defeat On/Off: reset the unit to its factory default bass and treble settings by turning the Defeat function on

Power IC Off: When an external amplifier is powering all the speakers in the system, you can turn the internal amp off, which will improve the sound quality.

Subwoofer Pre-out: In addition to the front and rear preamp outputs, the CDA-9884 has a dedicated subwoofer output with a variable level of 0 to +15. When the subwoofer is on, you can select either System1 or System2 for the desired subwoofer effect.

* Subwoofer System 1: subwoofer level changes according to the main volume setting
* Subwoofer System 2: subwoofer level change is different from the main volume setting; even at low volume settings, the subwoofer is still audible

Imprint: With the addition of the optional PXA-H100 Imprint box (item number 500PXAH100) and KTX-H100 tuning kit (item number 500KTXH100) a car's inherent acoustic shortcomings can be overcome with the MultEQ feature. Imprint also gives you much more sound adjustment flexibility as detailed below.

Equalizer: 10 typical equalizer settings are preset at the factory for a variety of musical source material. You can select from - Flat, Pops, Rock, News, Jazz & Blues, Electrical Dance, Hip Hop & Rap, Easy Listening, Country, and Classical. The head unit will also save six custom EQ curves you create by adjusting the units built-in EQ. Choose the parametric or graphic EQ:

* 5- Band Parametric EQ: The built-in Parametric EQ allows you to adjust the following 5 frequency bands in 1/3 octave steps from -6 to +6 dB at a bandwidth Q factor of 1, 1.5, or 3
o Band 1: 20 Hz to 80 Hz
o Band 2: 50 Hz to 200 Hz
o Band 3: 125 Hz to 3.2 kHz
o Band 4: 315 Hz to 8 kHz
o Band 5: 800 Hz to 20 kHz
* 7-Band Graphic EQ: The built-in Graphic EQ allows you to adjust the following 7 frequencies from -6 to +6 dB
o Band 1: 63 Hz
o Band 2: 150 Hz
o Band 3: 400 Hz
o Band 4: 1 kHz
o Band 5: 2.5 kHz
o Band 6: 6.3 kHz
o Band 7: 17.5 kHz

Crossover: The active crossover can be used as a 2.2 channel (3-way; low-pass subwoofer, band-pass midrange, high-pass tweeter) or a 4.2 channel (2-way; high-pass front and rear, low-pass subwoofer). A crossover limits the frequencies delivered to a given speaker, so you send only the frequencies for which the speaker is well suited. The crossover adjusts the high pass filter or low pass filter of each band along with the slope and output level. You can adjust the following crossover settings:

* 4.2 Channel:
o High Pass Filter: the front and rear outputs are individually adjustable; crossover from 20 to 200 Hz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of Flat, 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/oct, additionally you can adjust the output level from -12 to 0 dB
o Low Pass Filter: the subwoofer output can be stereo or mono; crossover from 20 to 200 Hz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of Flat, 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/oct, additionally you can adjust the output level from -12 to 0 dB
* 2.2 Channel:
o Tweeter/High Pass Filter: crossover from 1 kHz to 20 kHz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB/oct, additionally you can adjust the output level from -12 to 0 dB
o Midrange/Band Pass Filter: a band pass has both high pass and low pass filters; HPF 20 to 200 Hz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of Flat, 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/oct; LPF from 20 Hz to 20 kHz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of Flat, 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/oct, additionally you can adjust the output level from -12 to 0 dB
o Subwoofer/Low Pass Filter: the subwoofer output can be stereo or mono; crossover from 20 to 200 Hz in 1/3 octave steps with a slope of Flat, 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB/oct, additionally you can adjust the output level from -12 to 0 dB

Time Correction: The time correction feature delays the audio signal to the speakers closer to the listener. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance from all speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance of each speaker and subwoofer (6-channel) to the listener from 0 to 132.7 inches.

all of this just makes it scream that it's an awesome price for the fact that i get all of that, i don't think any of these are "optional 'buy this adapter and you can have this' add ons" are they? It would be nice to be able to have 300 bucks to drop on the same model with just a better display brand new, but that's not worth it to me.

If I could get this thing for 80 bucks I would be greatly happy!

called the guy, he'll let it go for $100 bucks, it comes with the wiring harness and an ipod cable, and he says that there are just a few minor scratches on it, and still almost a full year left on the Best Buy warranty... I can't get a head unit of this quality for $100 bucks, so if I am impressed with the aesthetics of it, I'm gonna buy it.

edit:
some sights show pictures that they have 3 RCA hookups on the back.. does this look like it has 3 to you? i can't tell if there is a third set or not because it is a little blurry.

yea it does to me. And i would get it for $100.

he lives probably almost 30 min away, which sucks big balls... but oh well i guess.

it's the exact model i want, mostly i guess, and it's a very affordable price.

go for it....if it doesnt charge your ipod, you can get adapter cables that reduce the voltage from 12v to 5v that go between the alpine cable and the ipod.

yes they have 3 sets of rca preouts and theyre 2v.

ive used some meguiers plastix on radio faces in the past in order to remove some light scratches....helped clear up the display

the specs you listed sound like the 9887, the 9884 doesnt do 3 way active crossovers nor does the 9886. the imprint and bluetooth are sold seperate as well as the ipod cable.

well i didn't realize imprint cost so much, i was only looking at the cheaper of the two accessories you need... it's insanely expensive with the other accessory you need (if i am reading everything correctly)

I didn't end up buying it because he was a dbag.. but anyway, I spent $100 on a tool box for my truck anyway.

Might just end up buying it new, or I still have the guys contact info, and he said he might not sell it. So once I get $100 again, i might hit him back up.
