Questions on 01 Explorer 5.0 to 00 Ranger 3.0 2wd coil-spring swap

First off I have read, & read, & read and done the research. I have a plasma CNC as well as Brian's motor plate diagrams & I have cut them out on already. I am familiar & aware of the PATS as well.

My questions are:

(1) I have the motor torn down to go through it prior to install. I want to change the cam as my ranger is much lighter and I am looking more for performance. I have seen one guy claim he is running a Crane 2031 with 1.7 rockers which seems like a lot of cam to try to adjust for. I know it's mass air, but will the ECU adjust that far? What is a good mild cam for this swap, & what rocker ratio with said cam? I plan to do some mild porting on the P heads, and have not decided on transmissions yet.

(2) Initially I planned on running the 4R70W, but I am now considering a T5 from a 99 Mustang 3.8 with an S10 tail housing. How close would the shifter be to my stock 5 speed location with this configuration? Obviously the ECU is setup for the 4R70W, so will I receive codes if this transmission is not seen by the ECU?

(3) I am seeing some guys extending their harness between the motor & ECU. Is this necessary? It looks to me as though they are in the same locations.

(4) Do I need to run all 4 cats to prevent getting codes or can I just run 2? I will run the stock H pipe if needed, but it seems quite restrictive.

(5) The donor came with exhaust manifolds. Obviously the Torque Monster headers are best, but until I can warrant a set, which flows better, the stock manifolds or the stock headers of previous years? Headers are usually better, but the manifolds actually look like an improvement? Does anybody have actual first hand experience with the fit of the Patriot Tri-y's for the older Mustangs in this application?

Thanks, Chas

Better late answer then no answer at all. Lol

1. Choose the cam you want. Then tune. You can also turn of the PATS function within the tune as well.

2.you will get MANY codes with a manual swap. It will take a tuner to remove those functions. And even then it will require a resistor installed in one location to rid the last code.

3.do it how you want it. It's preference.

4. You can remove the rear 2 cars with no ill effects. If you turn off rear o2 function within the tune you don't have to run any cats.

5. Not many options there...
