I just got my first ranger its a 98 xlt, 4x2, 4.0, and i am always leaving the key in the ignition. the chime is killing me everytime i open the door but i listen to the radio constantly. how can i stop the chime ?

I know that you can't unplug it on yours (that is what I did to mine). You may be able to open up the box and remove the buzzer. I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet.

I think if the ignition is in the run position and you buckle the seatbelt its stops? Give it a try

The way I prefer, on earlier models, is to cut the one wire coming from the key cylinder (not the ignition switch itself!). This tells the chime module that the key is in the switch. Should work in a '98, should be easy to get to (remove the column trim halves), just be sure to tape your cuts.

Edit: I forgot, but on as late as '94 the key-in-switch wire has a single connector about where the column meets the dash- just unplug. Don't cut wires unless you simply enjoy it!
