ok something is confusing me. my truck is a xlt ext cab 4wd with the 2.9 v6 anf the fm 145 tranny. i was replacing my front brake lines and the xlts would not work but the stx's did but truck is not an stx is it it does not say stx on the title anywere?? help please????

Why didn't they work?

Too short? Different fittings?

It's hard to say man..without a good description of the two compared..

that isn't an STX Vs Non-STX issue that is a production date issue

For most of 1986 and 1987 (through the end of February of 87)
used an oddball caliper that took different brake line and (outboard)

The "common" caliper was used on all other Ranger/bronco2 and Explorers
through the end of 1994...

The common caliper has it's connection on the back side of the cylinder
The "oddball" has it's connection on the "top" of the caliper.

Rebuilt calipers, brake pads and especially brake lines
are several times the cost of the comparable pieces for
the common caliper.
