Where exactly is the regulator? And yes I've changed the aluminum canister fuel filter but not the one in the plastic canister. The ignition module I changed out w/an accel module,I know what happens when they go out,the air filter I cleaned(k&n).What is the technical name of the plastic canister and would the framerail mounted pump have something to do with it or would it just go out?The cats are fine. Thanks for the help cause this shit is getting very annoying!

the fuel pressure regulator is on the drivers side just above the valve covers and has 2 fuel lines going to it. looks like this: http://www.autozone.com/R,1598024/v...partType,00165/shopping/partProductDetail.htm

while you are there pull the fuel line and put it a bucket and see if its got good flow. if it looks good youve elminated the rest of the fuel system up to that point. (the plastic canister is another filter) and i dont think the 87 has it. it would look like this on Flat Toys' truck:

the fuel pressure on the fuel rail would be a the next thing to check...which should be ok if you have decent flow. next injectors.

i had something similar to you happen all the time and i think it was the vacuum modulator on my a4ld (auto) transmission. an easy check (if you have the auto) is to pull the vacuum line off it and see if fluid comes out. looks like this:http://www.autozone.com/R,4903518/v...partType,00026/shopping/partProductDetail.htm passenger side on tranny

Mine does have the plasic canister and it's a 5spd.Do I need to relieve the pressure before I pull the fuel line?

Not unless you want an eye full of fuel. :) Either unhook the fuel pump relay and crank over the engine (I believe it's the green one, but I can't remember off the top of my head), or simply grab an old rag and put it over/push down on the schrader valve to release the pressure on the fuel rail. The rag will prevent the gas from going everywhere. Not as bad as it seems.

As far as the canisters, it seems that they tend to vary. My '88 has the dual fuel pump setup, but the fuel filter is up by the driver's side exhaust manifold. You'll just have to look and see what's there.

Thanks for the reply, yes my truck has dual pumps and the canister. So,just pull off the front line coming out of the regulator and if it just drips it's bad, will it go out alltogether or just keep running like shit?

Question, when I've been driving it for awhile it'll start acting up,until then it runs great,so what would cause it?

If it's intermittently running fine and not regardless if the engine is warm or cold, you might pull codes and see if that can't point you in the right direction. If you pull the FPR vacuum line and there is fuel in it, the diaphram is leaking (bad). It will run really rich, especially in the back two cylinders, that would be unregulated fuel getting into the engine. It hard to really diagnose a fuel pressure issue without a gauge (you can rent one), but you might start simple with pulling codes to help pin point down the issue.

the symtoms your expessing sound like classic TFI issues

FWIW... Can't say this is what is happening with your TFI....but...I also coined up for the Accel TFI...it didn't make 50 miles.

+10 on getting the codes.

might concider checking the pick-up coil under the distributor.
