Question on Radiator and other coolers

My 4.0l Manual with AC was single core, I assumed all automatics were dual core since thats what I ordered to replace it with no mention of AC.
But live and learn

Good work on the glove test
But now you have to figure out were that coolant is disappearing to :)
I had a cracked overflow hose, runs across the top of the rad, and is only used after engine and radiator are hot.
When rad cap opens hot coolant flows to overflow tank and some would leak out and evaporate pretty fast on the top of rad.
And when engine was off and cooled down it would stuck air back in, instead of coolant from overflow tank.
So always low level in rad when checking it cold

The Mazda parts truck I got for all of my swapping fun had a dual core radiator in it. That was a 4.0 5-speed. It doesn’t have the bungs in it for an auto trans either. Must be an aftermarket piece? Maybe a Mazda thing?

I've had this hesitation, surging problem for awhile now. I finally tracked it down and its been smooth running ever since. As a result, the engine is running cooler, though it still runs a little hot on hot days. It was a bad connection on the egr solenoid. I think i'll still do that 4.0 rad swap. Funny though right after I fixed that my fuel sending unit crapped out ha.. it reads when its full but as soon as I go a few miles it drops to 0. Time to drop the tank!

I went with the stock 5.0 explorer radiator in my 98 ranger when I put the 5.0 in. I have two transmission coolers twined together in front of the condenser and a 180 thermostat. I live in south ms and we have had 120 heat index days down here this week and it runs half way with the 4 core. I did not want to chance the stock 4.0 dual core with the 5.0(although it probably would have been sufficient). My 5.0 had 54k on it and the heater pipes were rusted to the point they crumbled when I removed the hoses. I just do not know what is so hard about maintaining your cooling system. I replaced everything with gates products for around 150.00. Belt, water pump, all hoses.
