I have a 94 ranger with 3.0 v6. The tech library here http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0performance.html shows the distributor cap with the number 4 post centered and against the back wall with the number 1 post on the back passenger side. I've seen this same order at several other sites. However, on my engine the number one cylinder plug wire is on the center distributor cap post that is shown as number 4 in the diagram. Are some of the 3.0 different then the diagram on the tech page?
Would the engine even start if someone shifted the order by one on the distributor cap? The plug wires counting from the first one are in the correct firing order, but is the first plug wire in the right place?
I purchased my truck two weeks ago and the previous owner installed a new cap and wires and I put in new plugs but the engine still idles rougher than I think it should. So this makes me wonder if the previous owner made a mistake when he installed the new cap.
Thanks
