The Dana 28 Differential in my 87 Ranger is making truly bad noises - can I
use the gears from a Dana 35 hybrid to rebuild it ? (of course using new bearings, and seals)

Thanks to anyone who may be able to shed some light

Yes.

You could also do half the work and just throw the 35H under the truck.

Ive read in the past that the hybrid differential the pinion gear has a longer shaft.

Thanks for the quick reply, appreciate the info -

By the way , would that require changing driveshaft and Transfer case ????

I've heard a couple conflicting reports on the hybrid axle's pinion length. Unfortunately I've yet to get the two side by side to compare myself.

I agree with adsm08, just throw the whole complete thing under there. No messing around with gears and mesh patterns and backlash and blah blah blah, and you'll have the bigger u-joints as well. If you end up having to shorten the driveshaft at all, it'll leave you all set for throwing an actual D35 chunk under it should you decide to do so in the future.

Thanks for All the help - guess I'll be throwing the 35H under there, and will be looking forward to reading more threads, and learning as I go !!!!
