Are all the 8.8 axles from the explorers 31 spline? I had one that was and it had disc brakes.

I'm looking at buying another but this one has drum brakes. The guy says it's from a 94 or 95. Would that have the 28 or 31 spline shafts?
Thanks in advance!

yep all expo axles are 31 spline

and congrats on the win the other month

Thanks and thanks!!

I'm starting another build. It's going to be a 460 based truck that I'm buying the axle for. I'd rather have a 9" but this axle is only $80.

Is there a difference between V6 or V8 explorer axles?

Shouldn't be. I think the only thing that might be different is the gear ratios.

That's what i figured, but I was on car-part.com and noticed that it asked me V6 or V8 and had a gear listing to it, so I thought it kind of related to the thread.

No difference, but FYI, if your hunting for an exp axle, grab one from a 4x4 exp, as these had the L/S, most 2WD exp has open carriers

allan d shared his unlimited knowledge again i am glad he doesn't charge for it lol

Also, 4 doors may have a shock mounted next to the pinion. My 97 donor explorer did while my 00' 2 door did not.
