question for you doorless guys

I havn't had a thing jacked from my truck in the 6 weeks I've had the doors off. Yes, I know that's a short time, and yes, I'm sure it helps that most of the criminals around here are my best friends.

If they really want my shitty stereo they can have it. Better then braking a window for it. Just don't leave valuabe shit in your truck.

I could understand leaving the doors on in the city. I have no concerns in the outer rim of suburban caucasia.

hmmm. never noticed the lip on the XJ

I was always under the impression that the reason Jeeps could run no doors was that they are designed that way from the factory, they are special. I know you can't legally run a car down the road missing body parts unless it is over a certian age. Or, unless the car was never equiped with them. Like my dad's old CJ he had, it never had turn signals, so he didn't legaly have to have them.

So, wouldn't that mean that no matter what kind of lip you have, no doors, tube, and half doors, they are all going to be illegal?

I wonder if you carried the real door in the bed but just didn't put it on, and you got pulled over I wonder if the cop would let you go with a warning or what ever if you just slapped the full door on.

This is true.

The hood, hood latches, hood fastenings, doors, and door latches shall be maintained in a condition sufficient to ensure proper working equal to that at the time of original vehicle manufacture.

In other words, if the vehicle came with doors from the factory, you have to leave them on. It's basically the same thing as mudflaps, you may pass hundreds of cops without them and not get pulled, but the one cop who does pull you, is right to give you a ticket for it.

generally there are provisions for off road vehicles and retitles negate this in most cases. i dont have time too look into this for wash, but i would bet if you dig, there is room for comprimise with off road rigs. it takes shit tons of reading in most cases and a lawyer to deal with these issues, but it is all in what you want.
