i have an 03 ranger with the two extra doors and i was wondering how tight they are suppose to latch, it seems like the top of the door latches firmly but the bottom has a bit of play.

I have yet to see the rear doors on a ''4'' door truck close properly, you have to adjust the latch on the bottom of the sill-plate.

+1

My drivers side one closes nice and fits tight, but the passenger side needs a little adjusting on the bottom.

When fitting properly there is almost no play in them (atleast in mine).

i took a look at mine and i cant even get the bottom to catch, i used a pen to push is closed and i could just pull it back open, from what you guys are saying, it sounds like it should catch and hold.

It should function just like a standard door latch, striker pushes latches around itself and they lock in.

I may take a gander at mine later tonight if I remember.

i have the opposite. the bottoms lock but the tops are wiggly. if i slam it it works just fine:icon_confused:

On mine, if there is any play in the bottom, that stupid door ajar light comes on. I need to make sure to push the door closed firmly from the bottom to get it latched right.

It does latch nice and tight though. If yours has any play, its not shut right.

Also, the striker on the door sill, the bolts can become a b*****. I stripped one, had to pay $8 for a 4 pack from the dealer.

Adjustment is easy, but mark its location first, if you mess it up, it can take a while to get it to latch right. If its off by a bit in the wrong direction, it can make your latch stick and hence you might have a very hard time to open your door. I over adjusted mine, and had a very hard time to open the door to readjust it, it felt like the door was going to rip off the truck.

I think it was a t35 or t37 or was that a t40 torx bit for the latch?
