So, with the recent purchase of an '05 Ranger 4x4, 45K miles, with the 4.0L, I have come to notice that the trans shifts very soft from first gear to second under wide open throttle. Second to third is crisp, same as third to fourth. Any slower of a shift and I'd start to question whether its shifting or slipping into gear. Anyways...

Question 1. For those with the 5R55E, do you notice this too?

Question 2. For those with the 5R55E and a programmer, does increasing the line pressure help firm up the 1-2 shift.

Mine shifts crisply in all gears, no matter the acceleration, except 3-4 always shifts softly under normal acceleration. I don't remember how 3-4 shifts under WOT, but the other gears are definitely way firmer under WOT.

I have a 96, but my trans is from a 99 exp, and mine shifts good 1-2, but my 2-3 has way too long a delay for my, its almost like its going to neutral for a complete second, then shifting into third, 3-4 and 4-5 are good. I know mine is programming, as I ran it real hard for about 10 minutes, and computer put it "limp home" mode, shifted normally, or hard through all gears....next day went back to shifting like it was. I have also heard that its in the valve body, that an upgrade is available, its almost like a shift kit, but not that drop your u-joint shifting...

I've read a lot of issues with the trans having a 2-3 flare up. I have gathered that its a gasket in the valvebody that has blown or fuid leaks in the circuit somewhere. I youtubed some 0-60 videos and on the clearer videos I noticed that a lot of others just "slip" into 2nd. It wont slip in any gear, but I wish the 1-2 shift was a little crisper. Oh well, I've been itchin to order an X-cal from Doug anyway.

I personally would try the shift kit, but I'm so close to my TT V8 swap, I wouldn't get much mileage out of it...
