Question For Florida People

I wish we still had it here. Sometimes it was a pain in the butt to have to wait in line for the inspection. But, I see so many people today driving on bald tires...cracked windshields so bad there is no way they can see safely enough to see safely. Doors that are falling of the hinges and they have kids in the car!!!! Cars that are smoking so bad, cars that are missing headlights, tail lights or turn signals that aren't used or even work, or brake lights that aren't working. Man what a safety hazard it is around this state!!!! I want to know why more cops aren't stopping these POS vehicles that are unsafe at any speed.....ahhhhhhhhhh!!

inspections don't stop jackasses with pos cars from hauling ass in unsafe vehicles.

it just makes the state some money, both on the inspection, and on ticketing people who don't have it.

there are tons of places at least in texas, where they just hand you a sticker after you hand them money.

in SD you see all sorts of pos' but hey im not complainin considering its funny to watch all the goonmobiles, also here we arent big enough to have traffic problems so mainly you can stay pretty far away from the pos'

Maybe because it's none of their damn business. I agree that there are some basic safety items that should be mandatory. So maybe it needs to be a little easier to pay for that stuff? SD has the lowest average wages in the nation, I have been broke and unable to pay for new parts before so what is a guy to do? Gotta get to work, no public transportation around here like you guys are used to so you do the best you can.

I know you can say get a better job or whatever but when I was in college and working at the same time making $8/hour it was hard enough keeping food on the table let alone buying tires for my pickup. :annoyed:

I agree with you on this. I know what it is like. But some people who make good money can make repairs or buy new tires (if not new then very good used ones are around). In our state if your windshield is cracked you can get it replaced by your insurance company. No money out of your pocket and your rates can't increase because of it. I see so many cars with damaged windshields that there is no way in hell they can see out of them safely!!! This must meant that they have no insurance or they don't give a damn!!! I see homes here in the area that cost over $200,0000 and thay have pos cars out in front all the time. Go figure.

When I was a kid, PA had state vehicle inspection TWICE a year and you had a windshield sticker with the expiration (we still have the stickers). Around 1979 or 80 they went to once a year.

I've been there too. All last year I went living off mac'n'cheese and ramen. Working 20 to 30 hours for $8.something/hr and barely able to put gas in the truck to get to work, but money for new parts or no there just comes a point where no matter how badly you need that car it isn't safe to drive.

Our inspection laws here might be strict, but you rarely if ever see one of those cars that isn't even remotely safe to be driving.

I agree that there are a few items in the PA inspection list that I don't think are legitimate safety concerns (like 1 bulb out of 3 or 4 being out), exhaust hangers not being in place if the system is still tight, or brake lines not being clipped in (not that I've ever been called on that one, even when someone else does my inspections) but when you have the big population centers around here we have to have those standards in place to keep people safe. And don't try to tell me that people should be responsible for making sure their cars are safe enough to drive. I agree with that idea, but from some of the stuff I have found, a lot of people don't unless someone makes them.
