My folks moved to FL a couple years ago and stay there for half the year (the cold half). Last year they both got FL drivers licenses. This year when my dad went to renew the registration on his car in PA they wouldn't let him because he no longer has a PA drivers license. They just got back and I note that there is no FL inspection sticker on his car like we have in PA. He says FL doesn't have annual vehicle safety inspections. I find that hard to believe, but I know that neighboring Ohio doesn't have them.

So...in Florida do you have to have an annual vehicle inspection and get a sticker, or not?

P.S. Dad didn't want to register his car in Florida because he had a personalized Pennsylvania plate that he can't get in Florida.

I just asked my uncle who lives down in Florida and he says they don't have state inspections like we do here in PA.

No inspections. If you have insurance, a title, and license, you can get it registered.

sounds like a pain in the arse i know here in SD you dont have annul inspections and what not

Okay, thanks. In PA we have an annual safety inspection where they check your brakes, lights, tires, etc. and depending on which county you live in, an emissions check too (since air stops at the county borders :annoyed:), and they put an expiration sticker on your windshield. If it's past due you can get a ticket.

ouch yea id be screwed on the brakes and emission part right now in my ranger considering i only have front brakes and my o2 sensors are out

Yea I know. Just like NC and other states. It's why I kept my vehicle registered in FL when I was stationed in NC. Screw paying some guy to tell me my trucks aren't safe.

Yup. You would be. The 5.0 wouldn't help you any for emissions either.

PA inspections aren't that bad. Most people I know don't mind them so much because its a good way to keep up with the condition of their vehicle.

I think I find a failable item on maybe 1 out of 5 vehicles that I inspect, and honestly, most of those are burnt out lights and torn wiper blades.

I maybe fail 1 in 20 for brakes or tires while I recommend and sell them on about 1 in 10 even though they aren't needed.

In 3 years of doing state inspections here in PA I have NEVER failed a vehicle for bad ball joints and only once for leaking shocks, same for an exhaust leak.

Besides, we have to make up for having the worst roads in the country by having the safest cars. :icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

NH isn't as bad as PA. You still have to have an annual inspection, but don't have to have insurance on the vehicle unless you are labeled a "habitual offender," by the state.

Any vehicles '97 and newer (start of OBD-II) have to have a "compter emissions test." Anything older than that, like my Ranger, just has to have the saftey inspection done.

Heavy trucks (anything registered to carry over 17,000 lbs, I belive) and other commercial vehicles (like busses) are required to be inspected every 6 months!

pa can suck my arse

To echo everyone else, you don't need an annual inspection in Florida. I'd be screwed otherwise, since my truck has a straight pipe where my cat should be.

I should also note that Florida has about 50,000 different license plates. I'm sure he can one that he'd like.

In NH, you can count the number of plate designs on one hand.

There's the standard issue (Old Man background w/ numbers), the conservation tag (moose on lefthand side), and municiple, commercial vehicle over 26,000 lbs, and state issue tags (reflective what with green lettering).

We like to KISS when it comes to tags.

Not quite but thanks. Dad had a PA plate with his college on it (you can get those here, I have one too), he also spent 35 years working there as the vice president, and it had the number 00001 since he was the person who set up the license plate program. My mom graduated from there also in 1957 and has the plate number 00057 but I guess that's gonna go too.

I told him he could sell me both Cadillacs for $1 each so I could keep the PA plates on them in my name. I dunno, he doesn't trust me I guess.... :D

Fla does not require front plates so he can still have his plates on the front location and fla plates on rear.
I Lived in FLA then moved to Wisconsin and in both states my custom plate is 1 BAD B
