I’ve been non-seriously browsing for new head units for our vehicles. One of the features I’ve came across is head units with Pandora music service. How does this work? Where does it get the signal to connect to Pandora? I’ve been mildly interested in satellite radio, but because my drive is so short, I can’t justify the price.

There are all sorts of head units and some have WIFI capability and Windows interface.

My head unit has blooth tooth and I can stream Pandora, or any music for that matter directly to it from my Android cell phone.

I was assuming it would somehow connect with my phone to use the cellular service. Last time I bought a head unit was back in '99........things has changed.....

Pandora just went pay for play. Now once you have hit 40 hours of listening time they charge $0.99 per month for the rest of the month. They had to do this due to royalty and licensing fees.

Just a note for you guys about Pandora. But with an 8 or 16 gig USB you could load enough music to not hear the same song twice in a month anyhow.

I have plenty of music that I could probably never hear the same song the rest of my life. I just like using pandora to listen to new music. Most the time I can get better access to pandora than regular FM radio. And the 40 hr/month doesn't bother me too much, I'll probably never reach it.

The pandora integration only works for apple products (iphone, ipad). When using pandora on these devices while they're plugged into head unit with a usb, you can control pandora with your head unit. This means if your head unit came with a remote (most do) you can use the re mote to change songs, thumbs up/down, etc without messing with your phone. Also the song title, artist, and album info will show up on the head unit display.

If you have a smartphone just get a model with Bluetooth and call it done. Mine was 100 bucks does everything and I control it with the head unit. No messing with the phone while driving.
