I have a 94 ranger with the 4.0L and the temp. gauge barely moves. today I replaced the t-stat and still barely moves. the heat works great. would it be the sensor just above the t-stat? i think it has 1 wire and I want to say it is black with red stripe. thanks for the help.

the sensor with one wire just take and touch the wire to ground when the ignition is on and see if the guage reads hot if it does the sensor needs to be replaced or clean and crimp the connectors and see if that works

The fan clutch could be stuck engaged.

Block off 2/3 of the radiator surface with cardboard and take a short drive. If it warms nicely, suspect overcooling from the fan / clutch.
