Some back history to start. I bought a 98' Ranger, with a 4.0 from a guy and it needed new heads. So my buddy and I replaced them with no issues. But after getting everything rolling I discovered the muffler was shot so I replaced that and then the gasket between the cats and y pipe. Still have some leaks. Found out the y pipe leaks at the joint where the two pipes come together. I couldnt find a replacement any where for the pipe. Well come to find out the guy I bought the truck from had changed the y pipe from the 98' from one out of a 97' but apparently there is no where to find that one either. So I thought by chance an explorer pipe might work. And I found that I can get those all day long. Does any one know if they would cross over? Heres a link to one I found on summit. If any one knows that would be great. Thank you.

curious to your screen name....
are you a type o negative fan or really into vampires?

From 1988 (2.9 engine) through the 1992 4.0) there is one Y-pipe for all of the Cologne V6 engines, starting in 1993 the Y-pipe changed from a single oxygen sensor port in the collector to dual ports, one in each of the collector pipes about 5" below the manifold flanges

in 1995 the shape of the mating flange to the catylitic converter changed, it is still vaguely triangular with three bolts but the bolt pattern as well as the flange shape has changed

this 1995 Y-pipe was used for 1996 & 1997 as well, later engine Y-pipes have in addition small Pre-CATS built into the "Down" or "Runner" pipes (as on the 1999 4.0 supercab I have sitting in my yard.)

Yup thats what the pipe looks like thats in the truck. Would it be better to run the y pipe that has the "pre-cats" or doesnt it really matter?

I do like type o negative. Ive actually used the same screen name for pretty much everything since high school. I think its just cuz im lazy.
