Question about LSD additive

Anyone have experience with using a synthetic gear oil in their Trac-Lock equipped axle and not using a friction modifier? Valvoline says their SynPower oil already has the FM and no additional additives are required. Should I add some or no?

I didn't use any additive when I replaced my axle lube (factory LS 4.10) and afterwards it felt grabbier than before, which I like. I used a synthetic, but don't recall the brand. I also cleaned the entire inside of the pumpkin with brake cleaner.

Limited slip additive is to correct a chattering problem.

If it doesn't chatter, you don't need it.

With a synthetic GL-5 gear lubricant, it is quite likely you won't need it.

Don't call it LSD additive. People will start trying to trip out on gear lube.

and if it IS chattering and the noise doesn't annoy you you still don't need it.

Basically if a limited slip isn't "chattering" it it isn't really grabbing either.

Dammit now I read this. Did my diff fluid a month ago and freaked out cause everyone told me I needed the limited slip additive. Whatever, its in there anyway. Also, not trying to sound ignorant but what exactly do you mean by "grabbing" or "chattering"?

When you turn a corner, can sometimes get some chattering from the rear tires as the LS is not letting each tire differentiate from eachother.

I never hear anything but occasionally feel like my rear end is trying to slide out from under me, is that what you mean?

So does that mean it doesnt slip as easily without it?
Is there any clutch life lost without it? ( do they burn up faster than normal)

If you want to fix broken parts leave it out, however if you want traction to booth wheels dont be cheap, put it in.

it u dont put it in its gunna grab better.but it might were out the cluches a lil quiker.

Limited slip additive has no real effect on service life.
It's more about having soccer moms not whining about
clunking noises whan parking at the mall while going to
buy pointless crap.

NOT using it will improve grip.

Not using it WILL NOT result in "broken pieces"

Please remember that the Ford Limited slip uses alternating
"flagged" friction material coated discs and splined steel discs

If you compare it to a Dana Traclok which uses a somewhat similar disc and plate arraingement, but does not use friction material at all... it's steel-on-steel

The common "Failure" (parts breakage) that happens with a Ford limited slip
is that the flags snap off the friction discs.

this is invariably LONG after they are worn out and the loose discs have been flopping around for quite some time.
